Jackson McDonald announces new partner appointment and senior staff promotions to start the New Year
10 January 2013
Western Australia’s leading independent law firm, Jackson McDonald, has commenced 2013 with the appointment of a new partner and a special counsel, senior associate and two associate promotions.
These promotions and appointment, effective 1 January 2013, are from within the firm and demonstrate Jackson McDonald’s depth of expertise across its growing Corporate Advisory, Workplace Relations and Insurance & Risk teams. They add strength in areas of continuing demand by our international, national and regional client base.
Hilary is a skilled banking and finance lawyer with more than 20 years’ international experience in diverse markets and varying economies. Joining the firm as a Special Counsel in 2012 to head up the Banking & Finance team, Hilary specialises in all aspects of corporate financing from advising on structuring to negotiation of documentation and completion. Hilary has extensive experience working on complex transactions and has particular expertise in project management, risk analysis, structuring advice, structured finance, multi-lender transactions, inter-creditor issues and derivatives. During her time in Perth, Hilary has developed niche expertise in personal property securities legislation, the newly proposed mining rehabilitation fund and in shipping law. Hilary’s practice draws upon significant overseas experience, having worked as a senior lawyer in the international finance department at a leading London firm prior to returning to New Zealand as a partner with a leading banking law firm where she was recognised twice by Chambers Global as one of the top ten in her field in New Zealand.
Chairman of Partners, Richard Sandover quoted, “Hilary has further strengthened Jackson McDonald’s corporate group and her extensive banking and finance experience, depth of commercial experience, judgement and intellect in the practice of banking and finance make Hilary a valuable addition to our partnership ranks.”
Renae has been an integral member of both the Workplace Relations and Occupational Safety and Health teams since 2007. Renae has significant experience in advising employers on employment relations, industrial relations, discrimination and safety matters. She also regularly represents employers during investigations by authorities such as WorkSafe, Resources Safety and the Fair Work Ombudsman and in guiding in-house investigations for an array of Jackson McDonald’s major clients.
Commencing at Jackson McDonald in 2006, Mark works in the Insurance & Risk team and acts for a variety of insurers and their policy holders in the areas of public liability and employers’ indemnity. He advises clients on policy indemnity, liability and contribution, contractual indemnities, quantum and claim management strategy and regularly appears at WorkCover and the District Court.
Zaneta specialises in public, product and treatment liability and workers’ compensation and employers’ indemnity. She commenced with the firm in 2009. Zaneta has assisted in the conduct of a range of litigious matters, acting for and appearing on behalf of insurers, overseas underwriters, self insured organisations and trustees in the Magistrates Court, District Court, Supreme Court, Court of Appeal and WorkCover.
Anna was originally admitted in New Zealand where she gained experience in banking and finance law. She joined Jackson McDonald in 2011 following the merger with McKenzie Moncrieff. Anna has particular experience in PPSA matters, banking and finance law and insolvency, and has been involved in a variety of commercial matters.
Mr Sandover also said, “These promotions reflect both the quality of practitioners who are attracted to the firm and our commitment to career planning and development.”
He went on to say, “We operate in a highly competitive market and we must offer clients highly trained and talented individuals on their matters. This group of newly promoted individuals are tremendous ambassadors for our firm.”
