Jackson McDonald appoints PPSA specialist Linda Widdup

Western Australia’s largest independent law firm, Jackson McDonald, is pleased to announce the appointment of Linda Widdup as Senior Consultant in their Banking & Finance group.  Linda’s admission as a lawyer of the Supreme Court of Western Australia was moved in the Supreme Court today by Hilary Hunt, Banking & Finance Lead Partner at Jackson McDonald (see photo).

Linda provides specialist advice on the Personal Property Securities Act 2009 (Cth) (PPSA) having gained extensive experience in the three PPSA jurisdictions, being Canada, New Zealand and now Australia. This places Linda in the unique position of having advised on the PPSA in all relevant jurisdictions. Linda also has expertise in commercial lending, restructuring and insolvency and commercial contract work for significant clients in the financial services, mining and agribusiness sectors. Linda has also authored several publications concerning the PPSA’s impact on commercial transactions.

Chairman of Partners, Richard Sandover said, “Linda’s deep understanding and knowledge surrounding the complex provisions of the PPSA combined with her international experience in the Personal Property Securities area make her a fantastic addition to the firm, positioning Jackson McDonald as a leader on PPSA advice.”

Hilary Hunt is no PPSA novice herself having dealt extensively with the legislation as a banking and finance partner in a major New Zealand law firm.  Hunt said, “Linda joins the team at an exciting time as we continue to expand our service offering to the financial services, mining & resources, and insolvency industries.  Linda’s expertise will compliment our strong Banking & Finance team.”

Jackson McDonald’s Banking & Finance group advises listed and unlisted companies, directors, banks, financial institutions and overseas investors on a wide range of large-scale and multi-jurisdictional transactions. The group also provides highly specialised advice on the PPSA including an expert opinion service to other law firms in Australia following the Canadian example where, due to the complexity of the PPSA, many practitioners choose not to advise in this area and instead obtain specialist advice from recognised PPSA experts.
