Solicitor/Associate - Construction

New year……. New opportunities

Are you looking for a change? Start the new year with a new role working as a Solicitor/Associate in our Construction team where you will focus on “front end” construction work (including contract drafting, negotiation and, advising on procurement strategies).  Some “back end” construction dispute work (including adjudications) may also be available. 

Our Construction team is highly regarded for its expertise across the WA construction (and related) sectors and is one of the largest in Western Australia. This exceptional opportunity involves working directly with Partner, Isla McRobbie, but also the opportunity to work with Partners Tom Jacobs, Lauren Cook, Edward Parra and Belinda Wong.  

Working within this team you will work closely alongside directly experienced partners with significant client involvement as well as opportunity for growth and promotion in the team.   

At Jackson McDonald we also believe in a broader collaborative approach across the firm – as such you may also have exposure to working with others in related teams such as our WHS, insurance and commercial teams.  

We act for a number of major organisations in the industry, and a range of clients including principals, contractors, consultants and government bodies. Our team is collaborative and friendly and enjoys strong links with key bodies such as the Master Builders Association, Civil Contractors Federation, Mining and Resource connections; SOCLA and Consult Australia.  The range of construction projects that you will be involved in will be diverse and challenging.

 About you

We are seeking a Solicitor/Associate with 3 to 5 years post-admission experience in commercial law. Ideally you will have had experience working “front end” legal work in the construction industry, and some experience in the contentious aspects of construction law. 

• excellent legal knowledge and technical ability, with proven experience;
• knowledge of the legal issues concerning construction and engineering projects in Western Australia (desirable);
• sound judgment and commercial acumen; 
• confidence to act in a client-facing role; and
• understanding and knowledge in the use of various IT systems.
