Workplace Relations and Safety Lawyer – Solicitor/Associate/Senior Associate

Jackson McDonald is seeking a talented and experienced Solicitor/Associate/Senior Associate with at least 3 years post-admission experience to join our Workplace Relations & Safety team.

About the role

As a member of our Workplace Relations & Safety practice, you will work alongside our experienced partners, Renae Harding and Greg Smith, in providing strategic advice to businesses, not-for-profit organizations, local government, and educational institutions. You will be involved in a variety of work, including advising on unfair dismissal, discrimination, harassment, and safety prosecutions, as well as handling mediation and litigation in court, commission, and tribunal hearings.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Drafting employment contracts and policies;
  • Advising on and assisting clients in enterprise bargaining and industrial action;
  • Advising on and defending unfair dismissal, breach of award and adverse action claims;
  • Advising on legislative requirements and award conditions;
  • Defending discrimination matters;
  • Safety and employment investigations;
  • Advising on and implementing employment arrangements in transfer of business situations;
  • WHS advice, serious incident response and safety prosecutions;
  • Opportunities for appearance work in litigious matters including attending conciliation and mediation conferences, instructing Counsel and, if you are interested, conducting hearings; and
  • developing and delivering training for clients on workplace relations and safety matters.

What we’re looking for

Our ideal candidate will have:

  • A minimum of 3 years post-admission experience in Workplace Relations and Safety.
  • Proven experience in handling workplace relations and safety matters, including dispute resolution and litigation.
  • A proactive, innovative, and energetic approach to legal practice.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to meet deadlines and manage competing priorities.
  • High legal standards, with a focus on accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong analytical skills and a solutions-focused mindset.
