The launch event, held recently, brought together staff and special guests for an afternoon of reflection, education, and celebration. The firm used the occasion to outline the goals, initiatives, and actions it will focus on over the next two years to drive positive change and contribute to a more inclusive future.
A highlight of the event was the powerful Welcome to Country and vibrant dance performance by James T Webb and the Wadumbah Aboriginal Dance Group. Francine Bayet from Reconciliation WA also spoke about the importance of truth-telling and the collective responsibility to work towards a better future for all Australians.
Adding to the significance of the day, Kevin Wilson, a Wongutha artist and designer behind the elements featured in Jackson McDonald’s RAP, spoke about the symbolism of his artwork, the ongoing journey of reconciliation, and the need for unity between First Nations peoples and non-Indigenous communities. The design, infused with deep cultural meaning, reflects both the challenges and progress of reconciliation in Australia.
Emma Chinnery, Partner in Corporate Commercial at Jackson McDonald and Chair of the firm’s Reconciliation Working Group said:
"At Jackson McDonald, we are deeply committed to creating a better future for all. Our third RAP reflects our determination to not only engage in meaningful reconciliation with First Nations peoples but also ensure that this commitment is embedded in every part of our firm’s culture. This plan is more than just an initiative; it is a roadmap for genuine change, guided by respect, truth, and the shared goal of a unified and just society."
The event also featured an interactive afternoon tea, catered by All Good Grub Bushtukka Catering, where attendees enjoyed conversations sparked by Yarning Cards, a tool developed by the firm’s Reconciliation Working Group to encourage deeper dialogue about reconciliation.
As Jackson McDonald moves into the next phase of its reconciliation journey, the firm is focused on ensuring its actions align with the principles of respect, understanding, and support for First Nations communities, with the ultimate goal of achieving meaningful, long-term change.
