Tom has 30 years’ experience advising clients active in building, construction and engineering projects. He is dual qualified in the UK and Western Australia, and is able to offer clients the benefits of his international experience in both contract drafting and dispute resolution.
Tom’s practice features WA focused contractors, subcontractors and specialist equipment suppliers, as well as international companies involved in delivering WA projects. He is active across the mining equipment and technology space (METS), assisting numerous clients active in the delivery of resource projects. He has advised on disputes involving renewable and other energy projects; health, education, rail and road projects; large local government procurement and general commercial contracting and engineering matters. He is also regularly asked to assist local government clients with training; contract drafting and updates; project claims administration and dispute management. He has extensive experience across all forms of dispute management, and has appeared in all WA courts, the SAT Tribunal and on domestic arbitrations as well as numerous mediations. He is experienced in security of payment matters both relating to Western Australian and interstate projects, having been involved in over 100 such matters. He was appointed to assist the WA Government in both the roll-out of industry training on the new Building and Construction Industry (Security of Payment) Act 2021, and to train the next crop of adjudicators to be registered under that Act. |
He is regularly asked to deliver training and associated support to clients, as well as industry organisations active in Perth, and has a long-standing relationship with the Master Builders Association of WA.
